Using Pool Water
« on: Mon July 24, 2017, 09:39:13 AM »
Alright, this is a of an odd question, but here goes.  I have a potential customer that wants about 2.5 acres seeded.  I asked him about a water source, and he said just use his in ground pool.  I estimate needing around 11,000 gallons of water, and he says the pool holds about 20,000 gallons.  He said once we're done he just fills the pool out of his garden hose each year and will just fill it back up.

So now to the obvious question, will the chlorine or any other pool chemicals harm the hydro-seed?  I mean, city water has chlorine in it, just not at the level of that the pool water is likely to?

All I can tell you is that a few years ago I seeded a baseball field using pool water and the grass came in fine.  I would suggest if possible that they don't add chlorine prior to your seeding if possible.   I believe chlorine evaporates fairly quickly and if none has been added for a week+/-  before seeding most of the chlorine should be gone.

Thanks, Ray!  I was kind of thinking that, let it sit for a week or so before.
